Friendship Day celebrates the solace we find in best friends, the trust we have in old friends, and the joy we discover in new friends. It recognizes the special role friends play in our lives the ears they lend us in bad times; the smiles they give us in times of joy. Friendship Day acknowledges our appreciation for memories shared and the anticipation of memories yet to come.
Most of all, Friendship Day is about personal connections. Friends share memories and give recognition to one another by sending cards, flowers, and gifts.
Sisters' Day: August 6
"To have a loving relationship with a sister," wrote Victoria Secunda, an award winning journalist and lecturer, "is not simply to have a buddy or confidante it is to have a soul mate for life."
Sisters' Day celebrates the spirit of sisterhood between biological sisters, adopted sisters, sisterly friends, and sorority sisters. On this day, sisters show appreciation for one another by spending time together and sharing memories and photos, as well as sending cards, flowers, and gifts.

Assumption Day: August 15
First celebrated in the fourth century, Assumption Day commemorates Mary, mother of Jesus' ascention into heaven. It's observed by Roman Catholics and members of the Eastern Orthodox Church.
There are two tales of the Assumption that are most commonly believed. According to Collyridian legend, the virgin's body was transported by a cloud to Jerusalem. While the Apostles watched, the Archangel Gabriel took Mary's soul to God.
St. John's legend, however, states that when the virgin was dying, news of her failing health reached the Apostles, who were travelling around the world preaching the gospel. All but St. Thomas returned to witness Mary's death and burial.
When St. Thomas arrived, he asked that he might see Mary's remains to pay his respect to this beloved woman. On opening her tomb, he was shocked to find the body was not there, for it had been assumed into heaven.
